DRIVING TOWARD 2 MILLION BY 2030

North Carolina faces a growing need for talent. More people must earn degrees, workforce certificates, and other high-quality credentials. myFutureNC tracks the postsecondary attainment of North Carolinians ages 25-44, as well as performance from Pre-K to college and career.

As of 2021, North Carolina had an estimated 1,555,543 adults 25-44 with a high-quality degree or credential; this is 31,000 individuals below where the state needed to be, at this time, to be on target for the 2 million by 2030 goal.

Land of Sky P20 Council Counties’ Progress Update

The images below show the status of our four counties (Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania) toward our 2030 goals for degree attainment of residents ages 25-44. Data source:  myFutureNC.

As of 2022, 60% (42,493) of Buncombe County residents had earned a degree or credential. Buncombe County still needs 14% more of its residents (or 14,910 individuals) to earn a degree or credential in order to reach the county’s 2030 goal of 74%.

In Henderson County as of 2022, 44.1% (10,993) of residents had earned a degree or credential. Henderson County still needs 17.9% more of its residents (or 6,724 individuals) to earn a degree or credential in order to reach its 2030 goal of 62%.

In Madison County, 50.1% (2,476) of residents had earned a degree or credential as of 2022. In order to reach its 2030 goal of 71%, Madison County still needs 20.9% more of its residents (or 1,409 individuals) to earn a degree or credential.

As of 2022, 43.9% (2,890) of Transylvania County residents had earned a degree or credential. Transylvania County still needs 6.1% more of its residents (or 3,627 individuals) to earn a degree or credential in order to reach the county’s 2030 goal of 50%.
