P20’s Involvement with NC State University’s Institute for Emerging Issues’ Financial Resilience Community Cohort
In July 2024, P20 was selected to join the Financial Resilience Community Cohort organized by NC State University’s Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI). You can learn more about this collaboration through announcements on both the [P20 website] and [NC State’s website].
Since then, P20 has been streamlining its quantitative data, resulting in a one-page Impact Report that highlights progress across the full academic continuum from January 2022 through January 2025.
As part of this effort, P20 consulted with Becky Bowen from BB Consulting to facilitate a Ripple Effect Mapping session with the P20 Council. Ms. Bowen is a licensed North Carolina attorney who specializes in nonprofit, cooperative, and small business development. She recently retired from NC State Extension, where she served the State of North Carolina for over 10 years as a community development specialist. Starting in 2024 she works through BB Consulting, LLC, a single member limited liability company formed by Ms. Bowen as a consulting service for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations
Ripple Effect Mapping (REM) is a participatory evaluation method used in community development, program assessment, and social impact analysis. It visually captures a project’s diverse and often unexpected outcomes by engaging stakeholders such as beneficiaries, funders, and organizers in a collaborative mapping session. Participants use interactive tools identify initial project outcomes and then trace their broader impacts, revealing connections and unintended consequences within the community or system.
The final Ripple Effect Map shaped by P20’s internal analysis and council feedback has laid a strong foundation for the next phase of the cohort. This next step includes strategic planning with Tracie Metz of The Bayberry Group.
Dr. Tracie Metz holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, a Master’s in School Administration, and a Bachelor’s in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Her combined expertise in science and leadership brings valuable insight to P20’s future planning. Over the coming months, she will work closely with P20 and its council to develop a comprehensive 3-Year Strategic Plan focused on stakeholder engagement, data-driven decision-making, and long-term goal setting.
